Aboriginal Heritage Tour

Follow in the footsteps of Aboriginal people and discover the significant connection between land and culture.

On this journey you will be welcomed with a traditional ceremony that cleanses and wards off bad spirits. You will then be taken on a walk that meanders through stunning locations within Centennial Parklands. Your experienced Indigenous guide will demonstrate traditional plant use, identify bush food sources and provide an enchanting narrative of the wetlands and their special relationship with this unique environment. Discover how to make bush soaps, experience traditional fishing techniques by the ponds, and enjoy a traditional bush tea and damper to take away at the end of the day.

The session will include:

Aboriginal Weaving Classes

The art of weaving and basket making has been an integral part of Aboriginal culture for years. The knowledge and skills have been handed down through the generations, and now you can learn it too.

In celebration of Aboriginal culture, join our Shared Knowledge expert weavers these school holidays and learn how to create baskets and tools out of resources right here in the Parklands. You’ll also hear all about the historic use of native plants and how local Aboriginal peoples identify and utilise them.

Book in both the morning and afternoon session and you will be able to create a bigger piece. All materials provided.

Children must be supervised.
This program is run by our service provider “Shared Knowledge”.

School holiday sports camps

Keep the kids active and entertained these school holidays by playing all their favourite ball sports!

School holiday programs are designed for children aged from children aged from 5-13 years of all levels of ability. All aspects of the game are taught in a fun environment and it is an excellent way for children to experience games from the grass roots level up. Our coaches will engage the children in fundamental technical skills and games. The camp program is broken down into groups based on standard, age and friendships.

The kids might want a break from the rigours of school, but they won’t from the joys of golf! The Sydney Golf Academy has lessons these July school holidays for children of all capabilities from 3-15 years of age. Number Crunch with Fizzics

It’s math, but not as you know it! This fun and hands-on workshop uses challenging experiments, tricky puzzles and lots of real-life applications to get kids excited about numbers. Determine wind speed. How high is that building? Measure chemicals for the best explosion! Can you work out the number of animals in the bushland? Bend and bounce light using prisms and mirrors… plus lots more!

The focus of the workshop is to use maths as a tool to do cool things, rather than just to provide correct or incorrect answers. Then, let’s get creative with maths as we take these ideas and do some whacky engineering and build things that work, but just don’t seem to make sense. Square wheels that roll? It’s maths gone mad!

Extreme Engineering with Fizzics

Engineers use science and their imaginations to make things bigger and better! Test out your problem solving skills and learn about real-life applications of scientific theories and laws as you put your creativity to the test as you crash test contraptions, construct towers, and more…

Bushrangers - Campfire Club

The greatest alternative to screen time!

Led by our experienced team of bushrangers, children will enjoy a day of wildlife, bushcraft, outdoor challenges, games and free play, all in the great outdoors of Centennial Parklands. Activities are designed to allow children to play outside and to take part in problem solving and cooperative challenges.

In the winter month, we will get to know the art of firecraft – learn how to light a fire from a spark without matches and make some delicious dampers.

This program is a firm holiday favourite and places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.

Please note: In case bush fire ratings are above low, we are not allowed to light fires and will change the content of the program to shelter building, outdoor challenges, and free play.

Age: 5-12 years

Special notes: This program will go ahead in all weather except high winds, so please come prepared with wet weather gear. Children must wear enclosed shoes. Please bring morning tea and lunch.

As the days get colder, fire craft becomes the priority for survival. Learn how to survive the night through the art of campfire making, using only resources from the Park around you!

Taste of Bush School

Want to see what Bush School is about? Come to our special session and check it out, by joining our rangers for a morning of fun in our mud kitchen.

Age: 2.5 – 5 years

Special notes: Please note children must be accompanied by an adult.

Bush School is an outdoor program and will take place in all-weather except for high winds. It is recommended children wear old clothes and gumboots. A spare change of clothes is advised. Participants (adults and children) are expected to dress for the outdoors, including bringing wet weather gear, a hat, sturdy enclosed shoes and waterproof footwear when required.

Theatre for Kids - Ned Kelly and Co. - SOLD OUT.

A fun-filled interactive theatre production is coming to the Centennial Parklands, with thrills, danger and adventure. Join the Ned Kelly and Co. drama company and learn about the lives of Australia’s most notorious and dangerous bushrangers in this engaging and action-packed production.

Kids will have the chance to shine in the spotlight as they uncover how people survived in the Australian bush, whilst being on the run from the law.

For children 5-10 years old. Parental supervision is required for this program.

NAIDOC: Reflecting on Culture

Randwick and Waverley Council are proud to partner with Centennial Parklands in hosting an evening of entertainment and cultural learning in celebration of NAIDOC 2019 - Voice, Treaty, Truth - Let’s work together for a shared future.

Join us from 5pm onwards to watch the flying foxes at sunset, experience Aboriginal dance, ceremony and education. There will be a Welcome to Country by Dean Kelly, a fire ceremony, traditional and contemporary dance from the Warada Dancers, a guided tour of the flying foxes and an Aboriginal astronomy talk.

Wonderful Wild Weeds - Foraging Tours

Renowned forager Diego Bonetto will introduce you to the wonders and possibilities of edible weeds on a 2.5 hour walking workshop in Centennial Parklands. To some plantain, dandelion, chickweed and sow-thistle are a nuisance, to others they are a delicious salad and a seasonal treat. Learn about the most common species growing in your garden, the green belts, parks and reserves. Find out how they have been used for food, craft and natural remedies. Discover ways to safely harvest the urban 'wild' and enrich your diet with vitamins and minerals.

Diego is an edible weeds advocate based in Sydney, most famous for his offering of urban foraging workshops. Building on the knowledge acquired while growing up on a farm in Italy, Diego introduces people to the ever-present food and medicine plants that surround us.

He collaborates extensively with chefs, herbalists, environmentalists and cultural workers promoting a new understanding of what the environment has to offer.

This is a family and pet-friendly stroll in the park, bring your camera and notebook, dress for the weather.

Chemical Concoctions with Fizzics
