All events below are free, so make the most of celebrating all the positives that Australia has to offer. Where: Walumil Lawns, Barangaroo, Sydney

Begin your Australia Day at Barangaroo Reserve by taking part in a smoking ceremony, an ancient custom among Aboriginal Australians. WugulOra, meaning ‘One Mob’, is a special moment to begin Australia Day by acknowledging our shared history and the traditional custodians of the land. 

Hear local elders speak of the strength and resilience of the world’s oldest living culture.

Watch as Aboriginal dancers and singers treat the audience to special performances, including the Sydney Festival’s Bayara Choir and the Koomurri Aboriginal Dance Troupe

Listen as the national anthem is sung in English and Aboriginal language Dharawal, before the Aboriginal and Australian flags are raised on the Sydney Harbour Bridge to mark the start of Australia Day.

The Rocks comes alive with colour and carnival this Australia Day for the Sydney Street Party.

Following the Oz-Day 10k, George Street will be transformed into a family-friendly playground with interactive games, activities and roving performers from morning till 3pm. Jack Mundey Place will be transformed with market stalls featuring locally designed fashion, jewellery and original art. Spend your day relaxing and enjoying all that Australia Day has to offer against the historic backdrop of The Rocks. For more info check here

Where: Darling Harbour, Darling Harbour, Sydney

Get wiggly this Australia Day as Australia’s biggest and brightest entertainment group, The Wiggles, perform their first shows of the year.

Arrive early to the Wiggles concerts and have fun with the stars of ABC KIDS – Lah-Lah’s Big Live Band.

The morning and afternoon concerts are ticketed events. Ticket information will be announced in January 2018

Where: The skies over Sydney Harbour, Sydney NSW

The skies across Sydney Harbour will come to life with a flurry of aviation activity. Look to the clouds to see three Hornet F18s and a Qantas A380 fly over the Harbour Bridge at 1.15pm-1.30pm, culminating in a Red Berets’ parachute display by the Australian Army over Farm Cove.

Throw a thong, see how much watermelon you can chomp your way through or hurl, heave and hobble in the Wife* Carrying Competition.

Try to catch the giant bouncing roos, musical maidens and colourful bugs on stilts around Darling Harbour.

Smoking ceremonies are an ancient custom among Aboriginal Australians in which native plants are burnt to produce smoke to ward off bad spirits, acknowledge ancestors and pay respect to the land and sea of country. The smoke is believed to have healing and cleansing properties.

Visit Campbell's Cove to learn more about Aboriginal culture and enjoy performances throughout the day. This interactive experience includes contemporary Aboriginal singer-songwriter performances, face painting, traditional and modern dance and rotating Didgeridoo masters.

Koomurri Aboriginal Dance Troupe, winners of the 2016 National Aboriginal Dance Rites contest, are the caretakers of the fire on Australia Day around Sydney Harbour.

Where: Tumbalong Park stage, Darling Harbour NSW

The fun continues into the evening with plenty of great restaurants and outdoor venues for mum and dad, live music and DJ’s to get you up and dancing and an exciting performance by high-energy cover band Furnace and the Fundamentals, concluding an action-packed day at Darling Harbour.
